South Wind Pennywhistles

The South Wind pennywhistle is constructed of thick-wall, seamless copper tubing with a Delrin® fipple plug.  Each whistle is comprised of two sections: a mouthpiece and a finger tube.

Each fipple is individually voiced with an emphasis on tone stability. Each finger tube is tuned using an electronic tuner.  Fine tuning for sessions may be achieved by adjusting the length of the whistle at its coupling. Finger holes are thoroughly shaped, sanded, and smoothed--facilitating an excellent seal while maximizing comfort and speed.

At the last, each pennywhistle is carefully sanded, polished and buffed.  Generous globs of our food-grade whistle wax are gently baked into the metal.  While a high shine is easy enough to maintain, we prefer the earthy rainbow patina that grows to reveal the whistler's touch over time. 

The South Wind pennywhistle has a slightly breathy voice.  Copper construction imparts a rich and husky timbre that is reminiscent of wood.  Volume varies according to the whistle's key.  The high 'D' should hold it's own in a session, while the low 'G' whispers a mellow lullaby.   We believe you will be well pleased with whichever whistle you choose.
